SpectorSoft Corporation, the same company that makes Spector Pro 2010, manufactures eBlaster 2010. The company specializes in computer monitoring software. Located in Florida, the developer has been in business since 1999.
The main differences between eBlaster 2010 and its sister product, Spector Pro 2010, is that eBlaster 2010 remotely monitors target computers and emails the administrator a report of the gathered data. With Spector Pro 2010, physical access or the use of networked share is required for report viewing. Frequently, users purchase both of the PC monitoring software solutions to offset the lacking features of either program. The price of purchasing both monitoring software applications may be too costly for those who desire an in-depth monitoring of all computer activity. It is unfortunate that SpectorSoft does not provide an integrated PC monitoring software application.
eBlaster 2010 installs with ease as long as all antispyware, antivirus and anti-keylogger software is temporarily disabled. Computer administrators can choose to implement either a local or a remote installation of this monitoring software. The local installation requires the computer administrator to be physically located at the target computer. If the machine is physically inaccessible, a remote installation takes place through the sending of an email with an attached file. The email recipient must click the attachment for installation to occur. To increase the likelihood of installation, a short personalized note is usually included.
One significant problem with this method is the resemblance it holds to many illegal spyware programs. Some users may experience reluctance to implement a remote installation. Additionally, a number of email programs do not accept the type of attachment file that installs eBlaster 2010.
Once installed, the PC monitoring software loads stealthily in the background processes of the monitored-computer. No program icons appear on the desktop. Further, no processes display in Windows Task Manager. The monitoring software does not interfere with or drain other vital system resources. eBlaster 2010 only runs in stealth mode.
Online Monitoring:
Computer administrators can view all of a user's online activities. The monitoring software creates a log of all accessed websites. Detailed information includes the date, time, frequency and duration of each website visit. This internet usage monitoring component allows computer administrators to learn if their users are viewing questionable content such as pornography. In addition, the internet usage monitoring element can discover if monitored users are staying up all night playing online games instead of sleeping. On more than one occasion, staying up late was the reason behind a job loss or children arriving tired at school.
The application's email monitoring feature records all sent and received email correspondences sent via traditional email clients and webmail. Supported apps and services include Gmail, Hotmail, MSN, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express and others.
The monitoring software records chat and instant messaging communications. Transcripts of the exchange include both sides of the conversation. Supported clients include AIM, Yahoo, ICQ and other popular clients.
PC Monitoring & Admin:
The eBlaster 2010 Control Panel provides computer administrators with the ability to customize the PC monitoring software's settings remotely from any internet-connected computer. Through the control panel, computer administrators can issue remote commands that shutdown, restart or even freeze the computer.
The monitoring software records all keyboard strokes. This feature can record sensitive personal information such as usernames, passwords, credit card numbers and more. Additionally the application tracks all user-launched applications and has excellent document-tracking features. The software logs all created, opened, modified and deleted files.
Filtering & Blocking:
Although eBlaster 2010 is not content-filtering monitoring software, it does have the ability to block specific websites. When a user attempts to access a blocked site, it will not appear in the browser. Additionally, the internet usage monitor feature can prevent users from visiting all sites except for those allowed by the monitoring software.
Reporting:
A customizable feature of eBlaster 2010 is the configuration of alerts that trigger a notification email when a user submits sensitive information such as credit card numbers, address, phone number and more. The software actively monitors the PC for the usage of these customized keywords and phrases. Upon identification, eBlaster 2010 takes a screenshot and draws attention to the potential problem by immediately emailing the information to the designated email address.
The monitoring software emails reports on a scheduled basis. Email volume is a potential problem with this reporting method. To avoid bombardment, the email frequency setting requires careful configuration. By default, eBlaster 2010 generates and emails a report every 60 minutes, a frequency configurable in the settings area. All email-transmitted reports contain a link to the online control panel.
The reports contain a brief summary of user activity that links to detailed information further down the page. The report contains transcripts of sent and received messages.
The monitoring software can, if configured to do so, send the administrator the transcripts of chats and emails the report as they occur instead of waiting for the regularly scheduled transmission. The chat report contains a complete log of both sides of the conversation.
Summary:
eBlaster 2010 is a powerful and reliable PC monitoring software solution that can keep a computer administrator informed about all monitored user's online and computer activities.
